Ativan (lorazepam) is classified as a benzodiazepine medication that is used to provide short-term alleviation of the symptoms of anxiety disorder. It allows slowing down the interaction between the neurotransmitters in the central nervous system. This is what helps patients with anxiety to manage their condition and get short-term relief. As a rule, patients experience an improvement around half an hour after Ativan is administered. The injectable form of this drug is utilized to control long-lasting seizures in patients suffering from epilepsy.
